MASONIC FUNERAL AND EULOGY FOR ASA MOORE 1815-1890

June 19, 1890 -- Lodge met for the purpose of extending to our deceased Bro. Asa Moore the benefit of a Masonic burial. Lodge formed in procession and marched to the house of S.P. Moore, where the ante-burial services were duly performed. Our deceased brother Asa Moore was then taken to the graveyard five miles south of town at his old home, and was then buried with due solemnity and in accordance with the ancient forms, customs and ceremonies of Masonry.

Lodge then met again at Lodge room. Motion was made and carried that a committee of five be appointed to draft resolutions expressive of the sentiments and feelings of this Lodge on the death of Bro. Asa Moore, and that the Lodge be draped in mourning for the period of thirty days and members wear the usual badge for the same length of time, and that said resolutions be drafted at once and a copy be furnished the members of the family of the deceased, and the same be published in the next issue of the Star-News. Bros. E.B. Lewis, J.H. Summers, H.F. Dunson, Geo. F. Ingraham and J. R. Buchanan were appointed on said committee.

Your committee appointed to draft resolutions expressive of the sentiments and feelings of this Lodge on the death of our worthy brother, Asa Moore, who departed this life on the 18th day of June, A.D. 1890, submit the following:

WHEREAS, It has pleased God, our Supreme Grand Master, in his wisdom, to summon from an arduous labor on earth and from the society of his friends and brothers and community in which he has long resided and from his affectionate children to an eternal and more glorious refreshment on high, our worthy and esteemed Brother Asa Moore. Therefore, be it RESOLVED:

1st. That we have ever recognized our Brother Asa Moore as a Master Mason. That his record as such here is just, true and untarnished. That he ever held before him as his guide the spiritual trestle board of Freemasonry, the great light that illumines the pathway of all good and true Masons. Having lived thus, it is our hope and trust, that through the power given of the Lion of the Tribe of Judah, our brother has passed the bourne of death and entered on that immortal life "which never, never dies."

2nd. That in the death of our brother Masonry has lost a worthy member, strong friend and supporter, the community a law-abiding and good citizen, and we individually his strong and firm friendship.

3rd. We deeply sympathize with the children and family of our deceased brother in their sad bereavement.

4th. That the Lodge be draped in mourning for the period of thirty days, and that the members wear the usual badge of mourning for the same period of time.

5th. That a copy of these resolutions be furnished to each of the children of our deceased brother, and that they be published in the Star-News.

E. B. Lewis,
J.H. Summers,
H. F. Dunson,
Geo. F. Ingraham,
J.H. Buchanan.
